Lone Star Stag Grips is solely owned and operated by Mike Palmertree. Mike grew up in Denton, Texas. He attended college at North Texas State University, Tarleton State University, and graduated from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. After college, Mike served in the U.S. Army as a Paratrooper in the 82nd Airbornre at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina and with the 172nd Light Inantry Brigade in Anchorage, Alaska. After the military, Mike was a Police Officer in Charlotte, North Carolina. After eight years as a police officer, Mike returned to college, receiving a Juris Doctorate from The American University Washington College of Law, in Washington, D.C.
In 2012, Mike returned to Texas and as many 1911 owners began searching for custom grips for his 1911. Unable to find what he wanted, Mike did some research and bought some wood. Sitting at his kitchen table with nothing but a Dremel and some cutting bits, Mike made his first set of 1911 grips. Of course, not satisfied with those grips and having more than one 1911, Mike expanded his work into his garage and began making more grips. Realizing that he had talent for making grips, Mike began to make more grips and eventually began taking his grips to gun shows, selling his grips to dealers and a few individuals. Shortly thereafter, Mike set up his own booth at the gun shows and began selling wood grips to the public. During one show, Mike's booth was next to an old time knife maker who convinced Mike that there was a market for antler and bone grips. The old timer gave Mike some tips on working with antler and bone and soon after, Mike was exclusively making grips out of antler and bone.
Although he started out exclusively making 1911 grips, it wasn't long before customers began requesting grips for revolvers. Specifically, customers were requesting grips for Ruger Vaqueros, Blackhawks, and Colt Single Action Army Revolvers* or in other words, Cowboy Action Shooters. Once again, after doing some research, Mike began producing quality revolver grips and opened up another side to his business. Thus, Lone Star 1911 Grips became Lone Star Stag Grips.
Each grip is handmade in the great state of Texas. Lone Star Stag Grips uses only the finest, naturally shed or cut-off antlers and only bone from animals that are deceased of natural causes.
Lone Star Stag Grips is a one man operation, therefore delivery times vary. At present, most orders require a delivery time of approximately 4 to 6 weeks.

Colt Single Action Army -- Colt SAA frames and pin hole locations vary slightly, therefore all our SAA grips may require minor fitting. Please contact us before sending gun parts.
Mike's grips are a natural product and no two pair are alike. Our grips are made by hand and not on a CNC machine, so each varies in size but are within the standard industry tolerances.
